About LifeGuessr

Every round is one real person, reduced to the two facts that matter the most in a life: when it began and ended, and where. Just two dates and two pins on a blank map. Work out who it is.

The pool is about 5,000 people drawn from Wikidata, ranked into four difficulty tiers by how widely they are written about, with themed packs on top. Coastlines come from Natural Earth. Both are free to use; this game would not exist without them.

Built by Marco. No accounts and no tracking β€” your streak lives in your browser. There's one small banner on the menu, swapped with other little projects like this one.

How it works

  1. You get a birth date, a death date and two unlabelled pins on a borderless map. Work out who it is.
  2. Each figure starts at 10 points. Your first guess is free, and so is your first point of hints; after that every guess costs 1, and each hint costs what its row says. A figure never goes below zero, and you can keep playing it for nothing.
  3. Stuck? Show me four names narrows the whole world down to four, one of which is right. Pick correctly and the figure is still yours for what it is worth β€” which beats revealing it for nothing.
  4. A run is 5 figures, so 50 is perfect. πŸ† Ranked picks a difficulty and goes on the weekly board, πŸ—“ Daily is the same 5 figures for everyone with one attempt, and 🎯 Training uses your own filters and isn't scored.
  5. Level pegging on the board is broken by hints bought first and only then by time. A clean slow run beats a fast one that leant on hints.
  6. ✨ Special packs award medals for how well you play a full run of one, and a second award for meeting every figure in the roster. You keep your best ever, so a bad run can't take one back and there's nothing to gain from grinding. πŸŽ– opens the cabinet.
  7. Nothing starts until you pick it, and five minutes of doing nothing puts you back on the menu. Your run keeps its place, and βŒ‚ takes you there and back whenever you like.
